Sri Lanka: 2000 civilians feared killed in one night

More than 2,000 civilians were slaughtered by Sri Lankan Army shelling on the night of May 9,

Medical sources in Vanni told Tamilnet.com: "Dead bodies are scattered everywhere, 814 wounded managed to reach the makeshift hospital [in Mu'l'li-vaaykkaal] up to 9.25am."
The makeshift hospital, which operates in a former junior school, has itself been shelled several times.

"Every kind of lethal weapon [including] internationally banned cluster shells … were used," Tamilnet.com reported.

"The SLA usually chooses weekends for its massacres to minimise international attention."
