Up to 60,000 people rallied for action on climate change in Melbourne on November 27. The rally kicked off a global weekend of actions to coincide with UN climate talks in Paris.
The march was led by First Nations activists and demanded an end to fossil fuels and a planned transition to 100% renewable energy.
Earlier in the day, organised national rallies against the forced closures of Aboriginal communities. In a statement it said: "We consider it timely that our Fifth Global call to action coincides with People's Climate Marches around the world and we acknowledge our common purpose with all who stand in defence of this fragile planet.
"While the Australian government is happy to give large mining companies unimpeded access to our land and all that lies beneath it, they have not even been willing to ensure we have access to clean drinking water.
"Tragically this government's political objective has always been about serving corporate interests at our expense while trying to use the pretext of dysfunction that has been imposed on us since colonisation. Our people find themselves locked out and prevented from accessing important places to continue their stewardship of country."
