First ASIET conference focuses on action

Regular readers of 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly will be aware of our extensive coverage of developments in the struggle for democracy in the Asia Pacific region.

From its beginning six years ago, 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ has placed particular importance on this region, especially the fight for justice and self-determination in Bougainville and East Timor, and for democracy in Indonesia. We have given these struggles priority not only because of their proximity, but because Australian governments have played and continue to play a specific role in these conflicts.

Internationally, a growing number of progressive people and organisations read 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ to keep up to date with politics in this region. They appreciate the coverage from activists within Australia, as well as from those facing far greater danger because of their activities and correspondence.

While 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly provides valuable information, we recognise that information without action can not change the balance in the favour of ordinary people and away from the rich and powerful.

Precisely because of its focus on action, the first conference of Action in Solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor, to be held this weekend at the University of Technology in Sydney, is supported by 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly.

ASIET members have contributed much of the information carried in 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ over the years — information that people who care about what's going on in Indonesia and East Timor have come to rely on.

91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ brings you information on Indonesia and East Timor that you won't get anywhere else. If you subscribe to 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly you won't miss out on any important developments in the region. In turn, the stronger financial position that a larger subscription base gives 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ will make sure that we will continue to be able to deliver this information every week. Subscribe to 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly — it's your paper.
