International law is clear: the right to self-defence does not include “pre-emptive” attack. Israel’s attack on Iran is naked military aggression.

For Australia to buy Israel’s perverse claim that its attacks on Iran are defensive is preposterous, and supporting a war based on lies and deception is both immoral and criminal. The pathetic handwringing and concerned utterances coming from Australia’s political leaders clearly show that no lessons have been learnt from the illegal Shock and Awe war against Iraq.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong’s call “for Iran to come back to the negotiating table, for Iran to agree to discontinue any nuclear program” is egregious gaslighting of the Australian people.

Iran believed itself to be at an advanced stage of dialogue and diplomacy with the US when Israel, with the fore-knowledge of the US, sabotaged these talks with its surprise attack on Tehran. Wong knows that Iran is not the one with nuclear weapons. We must interrogate her reasons for such disingenuous misrepresentation of the facts.

Israel’s actions throughout West Asia (aka the Middle East) are a threat to world stability. This behaviour must be stopped, not fuelled by impunity and complicity.

Points to note:

• Since 1992, Netanyahu has been claiming Iran is poised for a nuclear attack on Israel.

• Iran signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 1970 and allows the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to access its nuclear facilities.

• Despite its nuclear weapons program being an open secret, Israel still refuses to take either step towards accountability.

• Iran relinquished its nuclear weapons plan in 2003, and both the IAEA and US intelligence say that Iran has not decided to weaponise its nuclear program.

Therefore, we call on the Albanese government to immediately:

• Condemn Israel’s attack on Iran as an unlawful act of military aggression;

• Deny Israel use of intelligence gathered via Pine Gap;

• Place Israel under an arms embargo;

• Place full diplomatic and trade sanctions on Israel;

• Refocus on Palestine and recognise Palestinian statehood;

• Send official personnel to accompany the convoys attempting to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Australia must not participate in another illegal war.
