Philip Adams supports Packer memorial protesters

"It looks as though we'll have to have a memorial

service for free speech, a state funeral for democracy. These arrests are a symptom of Australia's arrested development. Whilst the A-list enjoyed a tribal gathering at the

expense of the Australian tax-payer (and paying

taxes wasn't a high priority for Packer), the police round up some young citizens who were quietly pointing out the absurdity of the grand occasion. I can think of few more theatrical events than the Packer service — one that called out for some energetic theatre critics. I suspect that the magistrate will regard the charges as ludicrous." — Letter from broadcaster Phillip Adams. Pictured — Protesters outside a March 14 court hearing.
