The United States government has recently stepped up its threats against Venezuela. US attorney-general Pam Bondi announced that the reward for the "capture" of Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro had been increased from $25 million to $50 million. The US has sent warships into the Caribbean sea. These warships sank a small boat which the US government claimed (without evidence) was carrying drugs from Venezuela to the US, killing 11 people. Since then, the US has forcibly boarded another vessel, and destroyed another speed boat, killing three more persons.

These threats and attacks are really directed against the population of Venezuela, denying their right to determine their own future. They need our support against the bully. We ask supporters of justice to respond, by joining solidarity actions.

For more than two decades, the US has been trying to overthrow the Venezuelan government, led by Hugo Chavez until his death in 2013 and by Nicolas Maduro since then. The US has supported attempted coups. It has tried to prevent the Venezuelan government from participating in international trade, imposing "sanctions" that ban foreign companies from dealing with the Venezuelan government unless given permission by the US. This amounts to a blockade.

The latest US moves may be in preparation for further aggression against Venezuela. The US government has also warned of future action against other countries of Latin America if they take action the Trump administration does not like (eg, the conviction of Jair Bolsonaro for an attempted coup in Brazil).

This protest in Sydney has been called to demand:
End US military threats to Venezuela and Latin America!
No US armed deployment in the southern Caribbean!
The Australian government must publicly oppose the escalating US military threat to Venezuela!
