Labor has dragged their feet on vital queer rights legislation since they won their super majority in the WA parliament. They promised to pass a reform to the gender recognition process, to abolish the ancient bureaucratic gender recognition board and to reform the Equality Act to better protect queer people in line with the rest of Australia.
Labor has refuse to commit to passing these reforms in this term of government. Failure to implement this vital legislation now may result in the reforms running the gauntlet of a future far more conservative parliament that may water down legislation and leave queer people unprotected. That’s why we are gathering in the Perth Cultural Centre to demand they support the Queer community and pass these vital pieces of legislation. We encourage all Queer people, allies, and progressive organizations to stand with us.
