Much of the pontificating about the threat of terrorism is merely fear-mongering. You are still more likely to get die in a car accident or of a terminal illness than be killed in a terrorist attack. Patterns of Global Terrorism 2002, a report released by the US State Department in April 2003, stated: "International terrorists conducted 199 attacks in 2002, a significant drop (44%) from the 355 attacks recorded during 2001." In 2002, there were the fewest number of attacks classified as "acts of international terrorism" by the State Department since 1969.
