The recent introduction of controversial laws by Israel, including 20-year jail sentences for stone throwers and the authorisation of force-feeding Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike, would worsen an 鈥渁lready-precarious human rights situation鈥, the United Nations warned on August 19.
Khader Adnan, Palestinian political prisoner and former long-term hunger striker, won his release from administrative detention this year. In a video issued on July 19, he called for action to support fellow hunger strikers Muhammad Allan and Uday Isteiti.

The deal between the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Iran over the latter鈥檚 nuclear program lifts an ominous shadow from a region already ravaged by bloodshed and conflict.
