Green Alliance launches campaign

ADELAIDE 芒聙聰 "We need an alternative to 聧 Liberal and Labor, an alternative that is inclusive and 聧 based on grassroots democracy, one that puts 聧 environmental and social justice first." These 聧 comments by candidate Trish Corcoran set the mood of the 聧 Green Alliance launch here on November 27.
Corcoran and fellow Green Alliance candidate Col Smith 聧 addressed the meeting of 30 people. In discussing the 聧 future of the green movement, Corcoran emphasised the 聧 need to look beyond polling day. "We don't just aim 聧 to get seats in parliament. This alliance allows us to 聧 highlight issues and encourage people to get involved in 聧 the many groups that make up Green Alliance."
The basic principles of Green Alliance are ecological 聧 sustainability, social and economic justice, grassroots 聧 democracy, disarmament and non-violence.
Col Smith particularly noted the need for increased 聧 funding for public transport and World Heritage listing 聧 for the Lake Eyre Basin.
If elected the candidates pledged to behave very 聧 differently from our current politicians. Smith 聧 explained, "A system of government has to be 聧 controlled by the people, not the other way around. We 聧 will seek community input and consultation." Both 聧 speakers said that over half of their salaries will be 聧 fed back into grassroots campaigns.
