Abortion rights activists rallied in Martin Place on May 7 to support NSW Greens MLC Dr Amanda Cohen鈥檚 bill to make abortion more accessible to regional and remote communities across New South Wales.

The rally was called with a day鈥檚 notice, in response to a far-right Christian rally outside NSW Parliament to oppose the bill.

NSW Police allowed the far-right Christian rally to take place outside NSW parliament and pushed the pro-abortion access rally into Martin Place.

The bill passed the NSW Upper House that night. 鈥淚t seems like there is broad support across party lines for some key parts of the bill, including allowing nurse practitioners and endorsed midwives to prescribe medical abortion, which would make a huge difference to access in rural NSW,鈥 .
